This years event, while saddened by our founder, Jack Belchers passing, was held anyway, as Jack would have wanted it to be.
It wasn’t the same as our banner 2008 event as we were hampered by rains, event delays, and not so ideal salt.
Four of our crew of eight drivers made their goal and got into the 130 club. Phil Cohen did it on his second annual attempt…good job Phil.
The other three new 130 members were R-56 drivers Beth Stenmark (our first female member to do so), Ken Green, and Sue Green.
Dan Skorcz failed to enter the 150 MPH club in his attempts and reached 143 MPH twice. “The car seemed to climb fast to 140 MPH where it hit an imaginary wall…and seemed to go flat” said Dan.
Entering the salt flats this year one had to cross a “lake” of brine about a block long due to the rains.
Other members making runs on the 130 course were “Wild Bill” Kunz, Andi Mast and her son. They came close but didn’t get there.
The campfires, fireworks, and camaraderie were all great.
A final goodbye to Jack was held at the finish line of the 130 course where some of Jack was cast to the salt Gods.
Plans for future Fantasy Racing Team events will be discussed after our awards dinner, which will be held on Nov. 7th. Any interested parties are welcome to join in the festivities and applause to the victors.

New Classes for MINIs in ‘09
Monday, March 2nd, 2009Many of you have read about what it took to get 3 MINIs over the 130 MPH mark at Bonneville and don’t think you want to spend the time and money just for a little fun.
We agree with you, so the Fantasy Racing Team will sponsor various classes for stock MINIs, both “S” models and non-S cars. This way more cars have an opportunity to compete against each other for trophies, not just the 130 MPH mark.
We’re trying to get more cars to participate and I think that with the chance to win something (regardless of whether or not you can get to 130) might be incentive enough to get more cars to enjoy the experience.
Stay tuned for details!
